Senegalia catechu – Catechu/cutch / kattha / khayer dyed embroidery threads.
The colour pigment is extract of acacia especially Senegalia catechu (Acacia catechu), by boiling the wood in water and evaporating the resulting brew.
It grows in tropical and subtropical regions. It is used variously as a food additive, astringent, tannin, and dye.
It is also known as cutch, black cutch, cachou, cashoo, terra Japonica, or Japan earth, and also kattha in Hindi, kaath in Marathi, khayer in Assamese and Bengali, and kachu in Malay.
It gives a great shade of yellow ochre, brown and black.
